Key Israeli statutory provisions in English (unofficial translation)
English renderings of the statutory sections this site relies on most, each with its Hebrew title and a link to the full Hebrew text. They are an aid to understanding the law, not the law itself.
In short
This page translates, unofficially, the Israeli statutory sections that come up most often on this site: Consumer Protection Law sections 13D, 14T and 31A on cancelling a subscription; Wage Protection Law sections 17 and 18 on late wages; Severance Pay Law sections 1, 12 and 14; Prohibition of Defamation Law section 7A; and Advance Notice of Dismissal and Resignation Law sections 2 to 5. The Hebrew text governs.
How should these translations be read?
- The Hebrew text governs. These translations are unofficial. The binding text of a statute is the one published in Sefer HaChukim, Israel's official Book of Laws. Each section below links to the consolidated Hebrew text on Hebrew Wikisource, from which it was translated (retrieved on 1 October 2026).
- Numbering. Subsections keep the Hebrew order and are lettered in English: (א) is (a), (ב) is (b), and so on. A Hebrew letter in a section number becomes a Latin one: 13ד is 13D, 14ט is 14T, 31א is 31A and 7א is 7A.
- Additions and omissions. Words in square brackets are the translator's, added for clarity; […] marks words left out, and a bracketed note in italics marks a part of a section that is not translated. A note below a translation is not part of the statute.
- Amounts appear as in the statute, in new shekels (ILS). Where a statute links an amount to the consumer price index, a dated note gives the current figure.

סעיף 17 — פיצוי הלנת שכר
Section 17: Compensation for delayed wages
(a) There shall be added to delayed wages the higher of the following amounts (hereinafter – delayed-wage compensation):
(1) for the first week after the date for payment of the wages – one twentieth [5%] of the delayed wages, and for each week or part of a week after that – one tenth [10%] of the delayed wages;
(2) linkage differentials for the period from the date for payment of the wages until the day of their payment, plus 20% of the total of the delayed wages and those linkage differentials for each month in that period; for part of a month, the 20% addition shall be paid proportionally.
(b) Delayed-wage compensation shall be part of the wages for all purposes, except for the purposes of this section.
Worked example (not part of the section): wages of ILS 10,000 for a month are due at its end (section 9) and are paid four weeks later; as they were not paid by the determining day, they are delayed wages. Under paragraph (1): one twentieth for the first week (ILS 500) plus one tenth for each of the three further weeks (3 × ILS 1,000), a total of ILS 3,500. Under paragraph (2): the linkage differentials (L) plus 20% of (ILS 10,000 + L), proportionally for the part of a month, which comes to no more than ILS 2,000 + 1.2 × L. Unless the index rose by more than 12.5% in those four weeks, paragraph (1) is higher, and ILS 3,500 is added to the wages, subject to section 18 and to the time limits in section 17A.

Frequently asked questions
Which text governs, the Hebrew or the English?
The Hebrew. The translations on this page are unofficial and are an aid to understanding only; the binding text of a statute is the one published in Sefer HaChukim, Israel's official Book of Laws. Each section on this page links to the consolidated Hebrew text on Hebrew Wikisource.
How quickly must a business in Israel stop charging after a subscription is cancelled?
Under section 13D(c) of the Consumer Protection Law, the contract ends within three business days of the day the cancellation notice was delivered, or within six business days of handing it in for dispatch if it was sent by registered mail, unless the consumer named a later date. The business may not charge for goods or services provided after that date.

Section 7A(e) updates these amounts on the 16th of each month by the consumer price index: as at 16 September 2026 they are ILS 84,437.40 and ILS 168,874.80.
How much notice must an employer in Israel give a monthly-salaried employee?
Under section 3 of the Advance Notice of Dismissal and Resignation Law: one day for each month of employment during the first six months; from the seventh month to the end of the first year, six days plus two and a half days for each month in that period; and after the first year, one month. The notice must be given in writing (section 2(c)).
