One question from each area — and the short answer
Six core areas. For each: the question actually asked at the first meeting, the short answer, the statute and sections it rests on, and what to expect in practice — what comes first and how long it takes. The office is deliberately small and independent: the person who handles your case is the person you speak to on the first call.
When does a class action make sense, and when does an individual claim?
Where the harm to each customer is small but repeats across many people — an unlawful fee, a charge never agreed to, a misleading representation — the vehicle is a class action under section 3 of the Class Actions Law, 5766-2006, and item 1 of the Second Schedule (a matter between a business and a customer). Where your own loss is personal and large, an ordinary claim is faster and cheaper.
Legal framework: Class Actions Law, 5766-2006 — section 3 (causes of action), section 4 (who may file), section 8 (certification), section 20 (remedies) · Consumer Protection Law, 5741-1981
Only after certification is the claim heard on its merits, and the length of the proceeding varies from case to case.
I was charged after cancelling a subscription — what am I entitled to?
A full refund of everything charged from the date the business should have stopped billing, plus statutory damages of up to ILS 10,000 per breach with no need to prove loss, under section 31A of the Consumer Protection Law — rising to ILS 50,000 for a repeated or continuing breach under section 31A(c). The business must stop billing within 3 business days of the cancellation notice (6 business days by registered mail), under section 13D(c).
Legal framework: Consumer Protection Law, 5741-1981 — section 13D(c) (continuing transaction), section 14T (channels for a cancellation notice), section 31A (statutory damages)
Before claiming statutory damages, the consumer must have made a written request to the business; for this breach a written cancellation notice is enough, but an oral one is not (section 31A(b)). Statutory damages are awarded in an individual claim, not in a class action (section 20(e) of the Class Actions Law).
Where do I turn in a dispute with an employer, and how long does it take?
To the Regional Labor Court. A claim by an employee against an employer falls within its exclusive jurisdiction under section 24(a)(1) of the Labor Courts Law, 5729-1969, regardless of the amount claimed — the Small Claims Court has no jurisdiction over it at all. Where hours are disputed and the employer does not produce attendance records, the burden of proof shifts to the employer (section 26B of the Wage Protection Law).
Legal framework: Wage Protection Law, 5718-1958 · Severance Pay Law, 5723-1963 · Hours of Work and Rest Law, 5711-1951 · Advance Notice for Dismissal and Resignation Law, 5761-2001 · Labor Courts Law, 5729-1969 — section 24(a)(1)
The Labor Court's "expedited hearing" track is meant for lower-value claims and proceeds without a requirement of representation. Some causes of action carry short limitation periods — it is better not to wait.
What must an Israeli e-commerce site have in place?
Disclosure of the business's details and the terms of the transaction before the customer commits, together with a cancellation mechanism for a distance sale, under section 14C of the Consumer Protection Law; explicit opt-in consent before sending marketing messages, with an opt-out option in every message, under section 30A of the Communications (Telecommunications and Broadcasting) Law, 5742-1982; and a privacy policy that satisfies the disclosure duty in section 11 of the Protection of Privacy Law, following Amendment 13.
Legal framework: Consumer Protection Law, 5741-1981 — section 14C (distance sale) · Communications (Telecommunications and Broadcasting) Law, 5742-1982 — section 30A (marketing messages) · Protection of Privacy Law, 5741-1981 — Amendment 13, in force from 14 August 2025 · Protection of Privacy (Data Security) Regulations, 5777-2017
A legal review of an online store is a matter of a few days' work, and is better done before any enquiry from the Privacy Protection Authority arrives.
What can you do when the other side breaches the agreement?
Under the Contracts (Remedies for Breach of Contract) Law, 5731-1970, the injured party may claim enforcement (section 3) or rescission and restitution (sections 7–9), and damages (sections 10–11) in addition to either of them or instead (section 2). Rescission requires notice within a reasonable time and on a sufficient ground — a wrongful rescission turns the rescinding party into the party in breach. Agreed damages (section 15) are payable without proof of loss, but the court may reduce them if they were set without any reasonable relation to the loss foreseeable when the contract was made.
Legal framework: Contracts (General Part) Law, 5733-1973 — section 12 (good faith in negotiation), section 39 · Contracts (Remedies for Breach of Contract) Law, 5731-1970 — sections 3, 7, 10, 15
In most cases the first step is a reasoned letter of demand: it defines the breach, opens a negotiation track, and serves as evidence if the matter reaches court.
How much can you claim over a harmful publication, and what are the chances?
Section 7A(b) of the Prohibition of Defamation Law, 5725-1965 allows damages without proof of loss up to a ceiling of ILS 50,000, and section 7A(c) doubles that amount where an intent to harm is proven. The amounts are linked to the Consumer Price Index under section 7A(e): as at 16 September 2026 the ceiling is ILS 84,437.40, and ILS 168,874.80 where intent to harm is proven (restated on the 16th of each month). This is a ceiling, not an entitlement: the court decides according to the circumstances, and the defendant has available the defenses of truth of publication (section 14) and good faith (section 15).
Legal framework: Prohibition of Defamation Law, 5725-1965 — sections 1, 7A, 14, 15
The fast track is usually a reasoned takedown demand to the platform and the publisher, together with preserving evidence (dated, URL-stamped screenshots). Waiting harms both the evidence and the remedy.

In most inquiries, a short conversation is enough to say whether there is a claim, which forum it belongs in, and what each route involves.
